Tyson Fury has shocked the boxing world today, after announcing his retirement from the sport aged 36.
Despite suffering back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk last year, the expectation was that Fury would carry on his career and take on domestic rival Anthony Joshua in a blockbuster affair.
However, those hopes were dashed this afternoon after ‘The Gypsy King’ took to Instagram and claimed his time in the ring – which he described as “a blast” – was over.
The Morecambe man concluded the video with a cryptic message which seemed to double down on his previous displeasure at the scoring of his two losses to Usyk.
“Hi everybody, I’m going to make this short and sweet. I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast. I’ve loved every single minute of it.
“I’m going to end with this, Dick Turpin wore a mask.
“God bless everybody, see you on the other side.”
This is not the first time ‘The Gypsy King’ has announced he’s hanging up the gloves – he claimed to have retired following his 2022 win over Dillian Whyte, only to return a matter of months later.
As such, it’s safe to say not everyone is convinced he’s truly done this time around either.
He’ll back in a few months once he’s offered 250 million to fight Anthony Joshua.

It does appear that a majority of observers seem to have doubts over whether Fury is truly done with the sport..
However there has been no shortage of those who believe him and have congratulated him on his successful and storied career.
And when speaking to BBC 5Live, the two-time heavyweight champion’s promoter Frank Warren didn’t seem to have any doubts over his charge’s authenticity.
God bless him, that’s what he wants to do and that’s great. He’s done everything you can do and he’s been the best British heavyweight of his generation by far.
He’s got plenty of money, he’s got his wits about him and he’s got a lovely family.
