With Rey Vargas losing a WBC title attempt at super featherweight recently, he remains WBC king a weight below. Brandon Figueroa and Mark Magsayo battle it out this Saturday night for the interim version of that title at Toyota Arena in Ontario, California.
Figueroa vs Magsayo is live on SHOWTIME in the USA and FITE TV in the UK, whilst Premier Boxing Champions promote the card.
After serving as interim WBA champion at super bantamweight, Figueroa (23-1-1, 18 KOs) was upgraded to full champion status in 2019, and made two defences before adding the WBC crown to the collection with a seventh round knockout of Luis Nery in May 2021.
Six months later though, the belts were lost, as Stephen Fulton Jr took a clear decision win to take add his WBC belt to the WBO strap after the 26-year-old had vacated the WBA title.
A move to featherweight followed, and ’The Heartbreaker’ has fought once since, a sixth round stoppage of Carlos Castro last July.
He now meets the dangerous Magsayo (24-1, 16 KOs), a former WBC champion himself.
The Filipino burst onto the scene in late 2021, first halting Julio Ceja in ten, and then taking the WBC title from Gary Russell Jr in a majority win in January 2022.
The 27-year-old shipped the belt in his first defence, as the aforementioned Vargas took a split decision victory last July.
Prediction: This could be a tough one to call, with both in good form, but Magsayo has impressed in his last two outings, and I give the edge to him, possibly by a thin decision win.
Hurd tackles Resendiz
Former unified super welterweight champion, Jarrett Hurd (24-2, 16 KOs) moved up to middleweight in June 2021, and lost a split decision to Luis Arias, but he should return after a long lay-off here with a points win over ten rounds against Mexico’s Jose Armando Resendiz (13-1, 9 KOs).

Gausha battles Lynch
Also in ten round action, Terrell Gausha (22-3-1, 11 KOs), who dropped Tim Tszyu on the way to a close points loss last time out, should also return to winning ways, and he can outscore Brandyn Lynch (12-1-1, 9 KOs).
Remaining Undercard
The final ten rounder is at middleweight, where Amilcar Vidal (16-0, 12 KOs) can stop Elijah Lorenzo Garcia (13-0, 11 KOs) inside schedule.
In eight rounders, at welterweight, Justin DeLoach (19-5, 10 KOs) could well come unstuck inside the distance against Travon Marshall (7-0, 6 KOs), and at super lightweight, Enriko Gogokhia (13-0-2, 8 KOs) can remain unbeaten with a points win against Samuel Teah (18-4-1, 8 KOs).
In six round action, Miguel Angel Hernandez (6-0, 6 KOs) can keep up his knockout streak with an early win at middleweight against Dario Guerrero-Meneses (1-3-1).
Featherweight prospect, Albert Gonzalez (3-0, 1 KO) can outscore Joseph Cruz Brown (3-5, 1 KO), and Anthony Cuba (4-0-2, 3 KOs) can stop Darel Harris (7-20-2, 5 KOs) in their lightweight meeting.
The sole four rounder comes at super middleweight, where Daniel Blancas (4-0, 2 KOs) can halt Kynndale Prather (3-15, 1 KO).
