Floyd Mayweather’s next fight is set for September 13 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Of course, neither the date, nor the location, should not be any kind of surprise… they were essentially predetermined.
Mayweather always fights at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas — he hasn’t since his 2006 fight against Carlos Baldomir was held at the Mandalay Bay. And he loves fighting on Cinco De Mayo weekend first and foremost (four of the past five years), with Mexican Independence Day weekend his second choice four of the past six).
As for who steps through the ropes against him, Mayweather has plenty of options for his next opponent. He could opt for a rematch against Marcos Maidana, although most believe we’ve already seen the best version of that fight.
Amir Khan just defeated Luis Collazo, although he’s shown hesitance over the September date. Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter are on the rise, and there’s the potential that Erislandy Lara shines in his fight in Las Vegas this July against Canelo Alvarez, and emerges as a top choice.
Of course, hopes for a Manny Pacquiao fight will always be there, but there’s no chance it happens this September. Don’t listen to Dan Rafael.
This is, already, Mayweather’s fourth fight of the six-fight deal he signed with Showtime.
