Before the July 14 world championship showdown between former Unified Super Lightweight World Champion Amir “King” Khan and current WBC Super Lightweight World Champion Danny “Swift” Garcia at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada which will air on HBO World Championship Boxing, Golden Boy Promotions will open its video vaults on Saturday, June 30 to get fight fans ready for this meeting of the 140-pound elite by airing two of the combatants’ most memorable fights on FOX Deportes beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT.
Fans will take a trip back to December 11, 2010 for the 2010 Fight of the Year between Khan and Argentinean slugger Marcos “El Chino” Maidana. A classic 12-round battle which saw Khan drop Maidana in the first round en route to control matters early and then Maidana roar back in the late rounds. The epic battle ended in a unanimous decision victory for Khan who, after nearly being knocked out in the 10th round, closed the 11th and 12th rounds swinging, making the fight an instant classic which fans will get to revisit again on Saturday night.
The FOX Deportes broadcast will also go back to July 30, 2010 for a fight pitting Garcia against fellow prospect Jorge Romero. Already making a name for himself on the national scene, the Philadelphian’s ninth round technical knockout over the 22-year-old Mexican was a major statement that Garcia was on his way to big things. He proved he was heading for stardom by halting Romero in a tough fight and has been nonstop ever since, taking on all comers including capturing the WBC World crown by defeating legendary Erik “El Terrible” Morales in March of 2012. Now the new star will defend his crown on July 14 against “King” Khan.
“Khan vs. Garcia,” a 12-round fight for Garcia’s WBC Super Lightweight World Championship, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Khan Promotions and sponsored by Corona and AT&T. The fight will be broadcast live on HBO World Championship Boxing at 11:00 p.m. ET/ PT in the United States and live on Sky Sports 1HD in the United Kingdom at 2:00 a.m. BST on July 15.
