Freddie Roach is busy as always at his Wild Card Gym, while working around the globe with fighters from many different corners of the world. His star pupil is of course Manny Pacquiao, and one of the latest additions to his stable is Zou Shiming, Chinese Olympic hero and new pro who is in the midst of launching his career and has received a huge blast of attention, particularly in Asia. Now, Roach says his two stars, Pacquiao and Shiming, will be training together in the same camp, as Pacquiao prepares for his fall fight against Brandon Rios.
Certainly, this isn’t much of a surprise. Fighters trained by the same trainer work together all the time. However, for the trio of Roach, Pacquiao and Zou Shiming, it certainly makes even more sense. Zou Shiming is fighting in Asia this month, and Pacquiao is following that formula this fall. Shiming will be keeping a busy schedule as well, and will be fighting several more times before the year is out, in front of his legions of fans.
So, Roach better set up shop somewhere in southeast Asia and get comfortable, because he’ll be there quite frequently for the foreseeable future.
