The rift between Carl Froch and Anthony Joshua was the talk of the boxing world not so long ago, after ‘AJ’ found himself on the receiving end of one of the Nottingham man’s trademark rants.
By all accounts, a private conversation was had to patch things up between Froch and Joshua, who once shared a trainer in the form of Robert McCracken.
However, ‘The Cobra’ may have added fuel to the fire with some recent comments regarding his former stablemate’s fast approaching world title fight against Daniel Dubois.
Joshua and Dubois will lock horns for the IBF heavyweight strap, which was vacated by Oleksandr Usyk following his mammoth undisputed victory over Tyson Fury in May.
And in a recent video on his YouTube channel, Froch issued a typically frank response to talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan claiming Joshua would enter “the realm of immortality” with a win over ‘DDD.’
“I don’t often disagree with much of what Simon Jordan says.
“I like how he sticks it on people and is honest. But he did say if AJ beats Dubois and becomes a three-time world champion, he’s in the realm of immortality.
“Sorry, Simon, but that’s bulls***. You can’t say that winning a vacant title that’s been stripped off the champ makes you a three-time world champion.
“That’s the problem I’ve got with this title being fragmented or being vacated or taken off the actual real champ, which is Usyk. That’s my main problem.
“If AJ beats Dubois, he’s going to hold his hand up with that IBF belt and say, I am now a three-time heavyweight world champion.
“Everybody with a brain is going to be looking, saying, hang on a minute, didn’t you lose to the guy [twice] that just took that belt off?
“Boxing shouldn’t be like that. And that will be solved if we have the boxing league. If Turki Alalshikh steps in and starts running boxing like Dana White [UFC style]. You won’t get this.”
Joshua may get a third crack at Usyk if he gets through Dubois at Wembley Stadium, as well as the possibility of a long overdue grudge match with long time rival Tyson Fury.
