Carl Froch admits he is concerned over Ben Whittaker’s credentials going forward after his draw with Liam Cameron on Saturday.

Whittaker and Cameron both fell out of the ring and the fight was called off in the fifth round, with ‘The Surgeon’ pictured exiting the arena in a wheelchair.

Many were quick to adjudge that the 2020 Olympic Silver medalist had quit, although according to his promoter, Ben Shalom he suffered injuries to both his ankle and neck.

“Following the unprecedented incident that ended the match on Saturday night, Ben Whittaker is undergoing further assessments on his neck as a previous injury was aggravated by the fall,” Shalom told Sky Sports.

“He also experienced an ankle sprain and will begin a rehab process as soon as he is cleared by doctors and is determined to be back in the ring as soon as possible.”

Former super middleweight world champion, Froch insists Whittaker’s performance is a cause for concern.

“I do think the fight could have gone on,” the 47-year-old said on Froch On Fighting.

“Some people are saying that Ben Whittaker actually quit and it would make sense, because he was under the cosh.

“I think Cameron’s really p***** off and Ben Whittaker is probably happy about the fight being finished.

“Whichever way you look at it, Ben Whittaker unraveled a little bit there, so you have to be concerned about how much of a prospect he’s going to be at world level.

“Hopefully he can come back fit and strong and show us all that he’s the start he is.

“I love watching him fight. I love his razzmatazz. I love his energy and his nonchalance in that ring and the confidence.

“But he looked a bit outmuscled in there last night and the way he exited in that wheelchair, I just think for me it was a little bit of looking for a way out.

“I’m not saying he quit, but definitely a bit ropey the way that fight finished.”
