The postponement of Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk was arguably the low point of the boxing year so far, though the rescheduled date of May 18th is drawing ever nearer.
Fury vs Usyk was originally due to take place on February 17th, though was pushed back after the Brit suffered a severe cut in sparring two weeks out from fight night.
Many even felt that the new spring date could prove to be too soon, so bad was the wound sustained by the 35-year-old.
However, in recent public appearances Fury appears to have healed up well and his cut man has now revealed it will not be long before the WBC champion returns to full sparring.
Speaking to Betway, Jorge Capetillo said: “The fight is going to be in May so he should be going back to sparring in two or three weeks’ time but the good thing is, he has been active with fighting Francis Ngannou recently.
“For him to get the distance and timing again is going to be easy, because he has remained in the gym.
“Activity is the key and it’s his advantage for the fight.
“There’s always a possibility that it could happen, but Tyson has to do what he is good at with his distance, reach, not trying to knock him out in one punch but set him up with big punches by using faints and his footwork and IQ in the ring.
“It is a matter of good timing, reach and his footwork being at his best for the fight.”
The first undisputed heavyweight world title fight in a quarter of a century, Fury vs Usyk is by far and away the standout event of 2024 and the winner will etch their name permanently in the history of the sport.
Many have serious doubts over just how much ‘The Gypsy King’ has left after his sub par showing against Francis Ngannou back in October, though he already looks to be much more dialled in for his legacy-defining date with Usyk in six weeks.
