Ryan Garcia has weighed in with his thoughts on the mooted September super fight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford.

Canelo, a stablemate of Garcia’s, will pave the way for a mammoth bout against Crawford should he defeat William Scull for the undisputed super middleweight championship on May 3rd.

‘Bud,’ who captured light middleweight gold against Israil Madrimov last time out, will have to jump up two full weight divisions to take on the Mexican icon.

And though the Nebraska favourite is regarded by many as the world’s number one pound-for-pound fighter, Garcia believes Alvarez will prove a bridge too far for him.

In a recent interview with Ring Champs, ‘King Ry’ boldly claimed there is “no way” Crawford pulls off the victory against his training partner.

“He [Crawford] is one of the best fighters in the world, but he can’t beat Canelo. No way.

“I don’t see him beating Canelo, he didn’t even look that strong against Madrimov and Madrimov isn’t even that big.

“The thing with Canelo is, he has mastered his style and he ain’t got to change it up.

“He understands what’s going on in the ring at all times. I just don’t see Terence beating him.”

Crawford and Canelo, both four-weight world champions, are regarded as amongst the best fighters of this millennium and a bout between them will be one of the biggest in recent memory.

As for Garcia, he makes his return to the ring against Rolando Romero on May 2nd, headlining the Ring Magazine Times Square card.

The California native has been out of the ring for close to a year, after he was slapped with a one-year ban for testing positive for Ostarine, following his fight with Devin Haney last April.

Though Garcia was awarded a majority decision victory on the night, the result was changed to a no contest following his positive test.

Haney will face Jose Ramirez as chief support to his old rival in six weeks’ time, and a rematch later this year looks all but guaranteed should the pair both emerge victorious.
