Ryan Garcia will have a new, yet familiar face in his corner when he takes on Rolly Romero.
Garcia faces Romero in his return to the ring on May 2 at Times Square.
‘King Ry’ has had a number of top trainers over his near nine-year professional career, including Eddy Reynoso, Joe Goossen and most recently, Derrick James, who led him to victory over Devin Haney last April, before it was overturned to a no contest after Garcia tested positive for Ostarine.
The 26-year-old, who was given a one-year ban by the New York State Athletic Commission, reunited with Reynoso in February and the Mexican was expected to be his head trainer for his upcoming clash with Romero.
However, with Reynoso’s number one charge, Canelo Alvarez bidding to become undisputed super middleweight champion on May 3 against William Scull in Saudi Arabia, Garcia has had to look elsewhere.

And the Californian has selected his father, Henry to lead his corner against Romero.
“Circumstances just didn’t work out this time around,” Garcia told the Ring Magazine.
“So I’ll be training with my dad for this fight.
“But we still have a great relationship and [we’ll] probably work together in the future.”

Garcia split from Reynoso in 2022, claiming that he did not have time to train him.
Alvarez was critical of his decision at the time, questioning his former teammate’s work ethic, although they later settled their feud.
Teofimo Lopez, who also features on the May 2 card in New York defending his WBO super lightweight title against Arnold Barboza, also joined Reynoso’s camp, but it remains unclear whether he will be in his corner on fight night.
Reflecting on his time back with the 2021 trainer of the year, Garcia added: “It was great man.

“We always have great synergy.
“We always have a good time.
“I obviously trained with them for like five years so it just felt like going back to training to be honest.
“I’m pretty used to the whole training programme, so it was easy.”
