Gesta Firing On All Cylinders in the Wild Card; Training with Roach

Undefeated WBO-NABO Youth lightweight champion Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta (20-0-1, 10KOs) is full steam ahead in his preparation for his first assignment of the year.  Gesta’s first victim will be a familiar one, Genaro Trazancos (22-13-1, 13KOs) of Mexico City, Mex, who Gesta stopped in seven rounds in August of last year.  The eight round lightweight main event will be televised live on Telefutura’s “Solo Boxeo Tecate” on Friday, February 18th, from the Longshoreman’s Hall in San Francisco, CA.

Gesta has been rubbing elbows with world class fighters such as Paulie Malignaggi, Daniel Jacobs and Vanes Martirosyan among others at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, CA, for the last two weeks.  Gesta traveled the 150 miles north from his home base of San Diego, CA, to set up camp at the world famous gym.

“I have been sparring the tough Ray Beltran and Jamie Kavanaugh for this next fight,” Gesta said after an intense work out.  “You just can’t find this kind of sparring in San Diego.  I am also extra motivated to be around such world class fighters every day.”

The southpaw Gesta had a spectacular 2010 as he went 4-0 with 3 wins inside the distance but he is expecting much bigger things in the new year, “I want bigger names and bigger fights.  Trazancos is brave for taking this fight after the way I stopped him last year.  I want bigger names so I can have a title opportunity later this year.”

The Gesta-Trazanco bout is presented by Golden Boy Promotions with Don Chargin Promotions in association with Jorge Marron Productions.
