Golden Boy’s new prospects, D’Mitrius Ballard & Steve Geffrard both make pro debuts this weekend in Detroit

Golden Boy Promotions is pleased to announce the latest additions to its roster with the signing of former amateur stars D’Mitrius Ballard of Maryland and Steve Geffrard of Florida to exclusive promotional agreements with boxing’s leading promotional company.

The two light heavyweight boxers will make their professional debuts this Saturday night on the Cornelius Bundrage vs. Ishe Smith undercard at the Masonic Temple Theatre in Detroit, Michigan.

“This is an exciting time for Golden Boy Promotions and the sport of boxing,” said Oscar De La Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions.  “We’ve had a great injection of new talent over the past few months and with the addition of D’Mitrius and Steve, I feel even more confident that the future of our sport is in great hands.”

A stellar amateur competitor, 19-year-old D’Mitrius Ballard won five Ringside World Championship titles, a 2012 National Golden Gloves crown and four National PAL titles, a member of the 2012 Olympic trial team, among many other accolades.  Trained by Lamont Roach Sr., the talented youngster from Temple Hills, Maryland is excited and ready to begin his pro journey.

“Golden Boy Promotions is the best promoter in the game today and to be on the same roster as a lot of my friends from the amateurs is an added bonus,” said Ballard.  “I’m ready to take the headgear off and get started.  I can’t wait.”

An amateur Triple Crown winner in 2010 who earned the National Golden Gloves, USA Boxing National and National PAL titles, 22-year-old light heavyweight Steve Geffrard fell just short of making the 2012 United States Olympic team.  Instead of waiting for another shot at the 2016 Games, the Miami, Florida resident will instead make his way into the pros.  Now training in Houston with renowned trainer Ronnie Shields, the promising light heavyweight is expected to do big things in the coming years.

“This is an honor for me to be working with Golden Boy Promotions and I promise that no one will be disappointed with my performances,” said Geffrard.  “Everything has happened so fast, but I’m taking it all in as I get ready for my pro debut on Saturday.”
