Yesterday after several days soul searching; Henry “Sugar Poo” Buchanan was removed from the July 8, US Airways Center Boxing show. It isn’t easy to make such a move but Mr. Buchanan signed a contract sometime ago and refused to abide by its’ contents.
Boxing fans in Arizona deserve a quality boxing show and now they will have one as scheduled. Everyone is looking forward to watching Fransisco Sierra take on Jesus ” El Martillo” Gonzales at the US Airways Center on July 8 in Phoenix. Doors open at 4pm and 1st bell is 5pm.
In signing Fransisco Sierra to replace Buchanan, Fan Base Promotions has chosen a young and tremendously talented fighter. His record of 24-3 w/ 22 knockouts speaks for itself. Boxing fans will remember this fight for years to come. Jesus Gonzales didn’t bat an eye when told of the change. He said he was ready to take on “King Kong” is he indeed was the opponent.
The rest of the card remains the same. Hot Cleveland Ohio boxing sensation Yaundale “Money Shot” Evans will bring his exciting brand of fighting into the ring to meet Emmanuel “The Butcher” Lucero. On some cards this hook up would be a main event. Evens deserves credit for putting his 14-0 / 10 knockout record against a crafty veteran who has fought some of the world’s best fighters. Lucero’s record stands at 26-6 w/14 knockouts.
The Under Card offers some great story lines: the return of once promising contender Rafael Valenzuela. A rematch with Undefeated Irish Canadian middleweight Janks Trotter and Arturo Crespin of New Mexico. Their first encounter resulted in a TD. Both men want revenge. Spunky Billy Schmidt and tough Carlos Reyes lock horns again after their March 18 draw was wildly cheered. Former Mexican National Champ Jose Gonzalez will meet Kevin Riding in an effort to find his first win. Gonzalez had to settle for a draw in his pro debut. Isiah McFadden returns to the ring after a recent loss and he will have his hands full with Roberto Young. Both are local kids and know how to throw the leather.
In the end all is well that ends well. Boxing fans will love this card and Buchanan will ultimately decide what he wants to do. Boxing will survive
