Allan Green Now To Face Andre Ward in Stage 2 and Mikkel Kessler in Stage 3 of the Super Six Tournament
As has been widely reported, Allan Green is Jermain Taylor’s replacement in the Super Six Tournament. He was slated as the replacement from the beginning, however he had a fight lined up for the beginning of February against Sakio Bika that was to be a de facto fight-in for the tournament. However, apparently Bika and his people pulled out of the fight, leaving Green more than happy to walk his way into the tournament and fill in for Taylor.
As a replacement in the Super Six, Allan Green is at a disadvantage. He takes over Jermain Taylor’s standings, so he has 0 points in the field. Of course, with knockouts counting for 3 points and Green priding himself on his power, he feels like he has plenty of time to make up that lost ground.
In his first fight in the Super Six, Allan Green will face Andre Ward. Ward is currently the co-favorite in the field after his dismantling of Mikkel Kessler. In Stage 3 of the Super Six Allan Green will face Mikkel Kessler in another intriguing bout.
Green and Ward, now opponents in April, have stylistic similarities and differences as well. Both have good speed and power, with Ward having the faster hands and the more complete package of skills and Green having more one-shot power. Both have also shown flaws in the past such as a tendency to lose focus, however there were no signs of that in Ward’s last performance in the first stage of the tournament.
