WBA Super Middleweight champion George Groves defeated Jamie Cox with a KO in the fourth round with a body shot to set up a Semi Final clash with Chris Eubank Jr in the World Boxing Super Series (WBSS).
The first round began with both fighter showing their aggression, but Groves showed his power and caught Cox with several right hands but Cox was able to eventually catch the champion.
The second round saw Cox begin on the front foot, cornering his opponent and attacking Groves to stop his movement, forcing the Londoner into a higher intensity but Groves managed to battle back and once again, showed his power with more right hands.
Though Cox tried to keep up his intensity, he was clearly struggling to handle Groves in the third and into the fourth round, a mistake by Cox leaving himself open allowed Groves to land a powerful right hand to the body which saw Cox drop to his knees and down for the ten count by referee, Steve Gray.
Groves said after the fight, “I was in tremendous form going into the tournament, it’s another good win”.
“I was landing big body shots on Jamie, in the end it was a right hook to the body, it’s a crippling shot – I don’t blame him for not getting up.”
Groves will now take on Chris Eubank Jr in the Semi Final of the WBSS, which is to take place in January.
A huge fight for both brits and one that we will all be waiting for!
