Roy Jones Jr has admitted he would be willing to step into the ring with Jake Paul, following the YouTuber’s unanimous decision win over Mike Tyson last month.
Jones was in attendance at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas to witness Paul comfortably outpoint the faded Tyson, a fight reportedly witnessed by around 150 million people on streaming giant Netflix.
The event split opinion amongst fans, with many of the view that ‘The Problem Child’ held back on the former heavyweight king and some going as far as to suggest the contest was fixed, a notion Paul’s company, Most Valuable Promotions denied.
Paul’s notoriety was only furthered by the bout, and boxing fan’s desire to see him knocked out is at an all time high.
Speaking to BoxingScene, 55-year-old, Hall of Fame inductee, Jones Jr explained why he believes he is the man to do just that.
“I haven’t had any conversations about fighting Jake Paul. I am not really a full-fledged heavyweight, but I weigh probably what he weighs right now.
“It wouldn’t be hard to match his weight, I guess. They do catch weights, so I’m sure we could figure out the right weight. We can make it happen.
“The only thing different though is he will probably have to take me out because I’m coming to knock him out. I’m going to get him, or he’s going to get me.
“It would be very difficult to pick him apart because he is so powerful and big.
“He has power and is a dangerous puncher. I would beat him, I’m sure, but you would have to be on your A-game all night, especially at my age.”
Jones’ last outing came in 2023, when he suffered a majority decision defeat to former UFC star Anthony Pettis at the Fiserv Forum.
‘Captain Hook’ is the latest of a host of retired professional boxers to throw his hat into the ring for a fight with Paul, with British former world champions Carl Froch and Tony Bellew also recently putting the Ohio native on blast.
