After seeming dead in the water, it looks like an all American mega fight between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia could still yet be on the cards.
In the aftermath of his comeback win over Oscar Duarte in December, Garcia called for a shot at former undisputed lightweight champion Haney, who won the WBC super lightweight strap against Regis Prograis the following week.
However, ‘King Ry’ publicly renounced his plans to fight Haney, stating he was pursuing a fight with WBA champ Rolando Romero instead.
Despite this, appears that he could still yet be in line for a shot at ‘The Dream,’ after promoter Eddie Hearn revealed he reached out to Garcia with a view to having talks with team Haney in Las Vegas this week.
Hearn even touted a potential date for the pay per view clash when speaking to Boxing Social.
“Originally, Ryan wanted that fight and I was disappointed when he switched to Rolly Romero but obviously that’s not happening now.
“Ryan wants to be in a big pay-per-view, and if you look at his options Haney is there to be made.

“I messaged Ryan last night and said your timing is great because I’m going to Las Vegas tomorrow and Devin and Bill are there.
“I think that’s a really natural fight to make, I hope everyone gets sensible and it can get made. April 20th is the date that is there for a potential pay-per-view.
“I think it’s the one that makes sense. If I’m advising Devin, I say let’s get it made, but Ryan will be difficult because he’s always difficult.”
A clash between Haney and Garcia would be one of the 2024 calendar thus far, though it remains unclear as of yet just how willing the latter is to jump straight back in at the deep end.
The California suffered the first career in April last year at the hands of Gervonta Davis, however the 10,000 strong crowd that turned out to his return bout against Duarte indicates he remains a strong commercial draw.
