Former WBO heavyweight titlist Lamon Brewster turns 40 years old today. Brewster is most well known amongst fans for knocking out Wladimir Klitschko in April 2004.
He also took part in one of the best heavyweight battles in the past two decades, his back and forth war with Sergei Liakovich in April 2006. He lost that fight by decision, and was never the same again, suffering from eye injuries and a downturn in performance which eventually would end his career.
Brewster’s KO over Klitschko marked the third knockout loss of Klitschkos career (and one of the major stains against his legacy). He had been dominating the far smaller Brewster, but seemingly gassed out and then was stopped. Klitschko’s team and fans have always believed there to be some sort of foul play in that fight.
After several title defenses, Brewster lost to Liakhovich, and then was badly battered by Klitschko in their July 2007 rematch.
He fought four more times, going 2-2, and finishing with a career mark of 35 (30) – 6.
