Hasim Rahman Jr has vowed to “punish” Jake Paul when the pair clash in New York next month.
Rahman Jr (12-1, 6 KOs) stepped in to be Paul’s sixth professional opponent at Madison Square Garden on August 6 after scheduled foe, Tommy Fury was forced to withdraw after being denied entry to the USA.
Paul (5-0, 4 KOs), who previously sparred his compatriot and fights a recognised professional boxer for the first time in his career, is coming off a one-punch knockout win over ex-UFC star, Tyron Woodley in their rematch in December.
Rahman Jr, who lost his unbeaten record in April after being stopped in five rounds by Kenzie Morrison, feels ‘The Problem Child’ will solely be relying on his right hand to win the fight.
“He don’t know a left hook from a fish hook,” the Baltimore man told FightHype.com.
“So he’s counting on that wild overhand right and for my left hand to be low and for him to catch me.
“He thinks that the longer the fight goes on, the better chance he has and that’s going to be a sad case, because we know what he’s coming in the fight to do.
“He doesn’t have better boxing skills than me. Anyone that tells him that is a liar.
“I’m going to show him what it means to be in there with a real killer.
“He’s got to be on point from round one until the end of the fight.”
The 31-year-old son of former heavyweight world champion, Hasim Rahman will have to weigh-in at a career lightest 200lbs and can reportedly weigh no heavier then 214lbs at the second day weigh-in on the morning of the fight, before coming in at whatever he chooses for the bout itself.
Rahman Jr, who has never weighed in lighter than 211lbs and claims he will be docked 25% for every lb over the weight, believes he will inflict a first defeat on the 25-year-old YouTuber-turned-boxer.
“Every boxer in the world that’s around this weight want to fight Jake Paul, because they know it’s a winnable fight,” he added.
“I believe and I truly have faith in the lord that I’m going to come out victorious on August 6.
“There’s absolutely nothing he can do to deter me from accomplishing that goal.
“I’m going to punish him, I’m not going to give him nothing.
“Like I said before, if the CompuBox reads zero for him at the end of the night, I feel like mission accomplished, but you can’t swim without getting wet so that’s why we’re getting ready.”
