In the next upcoming episode of Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel on HBO, they feature a segment with current boxing trainer and past female boxing champion Ann Wolfe. Wolfe is notoriously tough on her boxing proteges, never holding back on verbally tearing into them or in pushing them through torturous, brutal workouts. Aside from her own professional career, Wolfe was back in the spotlight several years ago as she was training and mentoring the then-undefeated and quick-rising prospect James Kirkland. Kirkland since has done a stint in his prison and had his rebuilding efforts derailed after suffering a 1st round KO loss. Kirkland hasn’t worked with Wolfe since his return to the sport.
Nonetheless, Wolfe is carrying on, training her own daughter and kids of all ages. In the Real Sports video preview here, you can see some of the crazy training tactics and devices she has concocted, including the slave chain, a 50 lb chain that her boxers have wrapped around their wrists and then run with, and a moving speed bag of sorts on a lawnmower.
