Eddie Hearn has questioned Oscar De La Hoya over his recent comments in which he criticised Canelo Alvarez’s upcoming fight with Edgar Berlanga.

Hearn and De La Hoya, share a broadcast platform in DAZN, but have had a staunch rivalry over the years, perhaps fuelled by Canelo’s decision to join the British promoter after leaving De La Hoya’s Golden Boy.

De La Hoya clashed with Alvarez in the lead-up to his clash with Jaime Munguia in May, with the Mexican confronting his former boss, as tensions boiled over at the fight-week press conference.

The 51-year-old took further shots at the four-weight world champion during an Instagram video on Thursday, claiming his fight with Berlanga on September 14 in Las Vegas is robbing the fans and confirmed that he’d be attending UFC 306 at the Sphere instead.

“So, we are a week away from the boxing match nobody asked for and the UFC event everybody will be watching,” he said.

“Canelo is fighting Berlanga, another snoozefest. They’re trying to sell a PPV for $90 at a $500 minimum in person.

“It’s just robbery at this point to pay for another lame Canelo that always goes the distance against a sub-par opponent.

“I’ll actually be attending the UFC event at the Sphere instead.”

Hearn, who promotes Berlanga, feels the ‘Golden Boy’ would be better placed promoting his roster of talent rather than focusing his attention on a fighter who is no longer signed to him.

“It’s like he’s on a wind up the whole time,” Hearn told The Stomping Ground.

“I think Oscar should use that platform to promote his fighters.

“If you’re talking about that and driving these numbers, why do you spend your whole time talking about Canelo Alvarez?

“Who you don’t represent, who you have nothing to do with.

“If you actually think about it, it doesn’t really make sense.

“You should be talking about Vergil Ortiz, you should be talking about William Zepeda, you should be talking about Zurdo Ramirez and you’re just using your platform to talk about a guy who left you four or five years ago.

“And the fight is on DAZN, which is his broadcaster.”
