Eddie Hearn and Chris Eubank Jr’s manager came face-to-face this week, and had plenty to say to one and other as talks for a Conor Benn showdown continue.
Negotiations for a fight between Eubank and Hearn charge Benn appear to be at a stalemate, despite being by far and away the largest financial option for both.
A grudge match between the pair has been over two years in the making, after their original October 2022 date was shelved following ‘The Destroyer’ returning a positive VADA test.
With Benn now fully cleared by UKAD, Hearn was told by Eubank’s manager ‘Napper’ – real name Elliott Amoakoh – that ‘Next Gen’ must get a majority of the split or the bout will not happen.
Amoakoh explained to the Matchroom boss that a showdown between Eubank and Benn simply “is not a 50/50 fight” on IFL TV:
“There’s nothing difficult, you know the numbers – 55/45 split, we’re ready.
“It’s not a 50/50 fight. Chris is way bigger and he’s earned way more money than Conor in his career.”
Hearn however implored Amoakoh to urge his man to put his ego to the side.
“Without each other, they don’t have this kind of opportunity.
“I know we can talk about the Canelo fight, but with all due respect to Conor, Canelo at 168 is a different kind of challenge.
“I would be saying to Eubank, you may be worth 55%, but you’re going to make all this f***ing money to fight a little old welterweight.
“Do yourself a favour, slap yourself around the chops and f***ing sign it son!”
Given how long the saga around the fight has gone on for, British fans will hope that concessions are made soon, so the two family rivals can finally settle their differences in the ring.
If it is to happen next year, Eubank vs Benn would almost certainly take place at the former’s natural weight class of 160lbs.
