This Saturday at Pacplex in Brooklyn, Heavyweight contender Derric Rossy returns to the ring when he takes on Jonte Willis in the eight round main event of a card promoted by Sal Musumeci’s Final Forum Boxing.
Rossy (28-7, 14 KO’s) of Medford, NY knows that he needs a win over Willis to stay relevant in the Heavyweight division. He found a familiar person to help guide him on this journey.
“I took some time off and I am training with my father,”said Rossy. “We have been working on the little things”
In Willis (9-7-1, 3 KO’s), Rossy knows it will not be easy but he knows what he has to do.
“He is a durable fighter and I am not taking him lightly. I am looking to put on a solid display.”
It was just over two years ago where elimination bouts with Eddie Chambers and Maurice Harris had Rossy on the doorstep of a world title shot. Even though this is kind of a start over for Rossy, he does not believe it will take long before he is back on the verge of a championship shot.
“With the way the division is, I don’t think it will take more than three fights for me to be back knocking on the door.”
At age 33, Rossy has fought the likes of Chambers (twice), Fres Oquendo, Travis Walker, Audley Harrison, Harris, Kubret Pulev, Carl Drummond, Alexander Dimitrenko and Ray Mercer and know he feels all that experience will help propel him and get him over the hump.
“We made our career choice to fight all of the those top guys. We fought the best to be the best and we make our own shot by fighting the best. By fighting all of those top guys has giving me confidence to improve my skills and I know I can be a force.”
The fight that really eats at Rossy was the 12th round stoppage defeat to Harris in July of 2011 in Atlantic City.
“I fought his fight. I got drawn into a battle where i know if I would have boxed more the outcome would have been different.”
“I am very prepared for this fight and I am going to make a splash and I know that this is my last push to become Heavyweight champion.”

- Cruiserweight Keith Tapia (9-0, 6 KO’s) of Santruce, Puerto Rico will fight Tobias Rice (4-9-1, 2 KO’s) of Macon, Georgia in a bout scheduled for six rounds.
- Rafael Hernandez (8-0, 5 KO’s) of Grand Rapids, MI will fight Dedrick Bell (10-17-1, 7 KO’s) of Memphis, Tennessee in a six round Jr. Welterweight bout.
- Ytalo Perera (5-1, 3 KO’s) of Howard Beach, NY via Ecuador will fight Tyrone Gibson (1-4, 1 KO) of Duluth, MN in a four round Heavyweight bout.
- Phillip Moreno of Brooklyn, New York will make his pro debut when he battles Nathan Seelye (0-2) of Minnesota in a Featherweight bout scheduled for four rounds.
- Allan Phelan (3-2, 3 KO’s) of New York via Ireland will square off with Tomi Archambault (1-6, 1 KO) in a Lightweight bout scheduled for four rounds.
