Heavyweight wrecking ball Luis Ortiz and promoter Golden Boy have apparently split. While Ortiz has been somewhat of a sensation in the ring, out of the ring, there have been issues such as failed drug tests.
We don’t know the exact reason for the split or which side starting things moving in that direction. But for now, what we do have is a statement from Golden Boy, and things at least on the surface appear amicable. Here’s the full statement:
“Today, Golden Boy Promotions and Luis Ortiz amicably parted ways,” said Stefan Friedman, spokesperson for Golden Boy Promotions.
“We are proud of the work that Golden Boy and Luis accomplished together culminating in his WBA Heavyweight Interim Championship victory and subsequent title defenses. We wish Luis and his team all the best in the future.”
