Hennessy Sports Prospects McGuinness & Vargas Score Big Wins

Hennessy Sports Canada congratulates brand new NABA Lightweight champion Logan Cotton McGuinness (12-0-1, 6 KO’s), and undefeated welterweight Samuel Vargas (6-0, 1 KO), both of whom stepped up big in the most important fights of their respective careers this past Saturday night in Mississauga, Ontario.

McGuinness launched himself on to the international scene by battering crosstown Orangeville rival Buzz Grant over two startlingly one-sided rounds, before Grant declined to leave his corner to start the third.

Explosive straight McGuinness rights to the head, and crippling hooks to the body quickly rendered the ordinarily cagey Grant completely helpless, and marked the emergence of a bright new star at 135 pounds.

“Many people thought Buzz’ movement was going to give Logan a hard time, but Logan showed that he’s the best lightweight in Canada,” said McGuinness’ promoter, Adam Harris, President of Hennessy Sports Canada.

In the other co-feature of the night, undefeated Samuel Vargas was looking to bounce back from a sub-par performance in his previous fight, and send a clear message that “El Producto” was ready shake up the Canadian welterweight scene.

And he did just that, topping a game, but far out-gunned, Ryan Wagner over 6 heated rounds, largely dominated by Vargas’ never ending two-fisted barrage. “It was great to see Sammy rebound like that, and really show his class against a tough kid like Wagner,” said Harris. “That was a character performance by a guy that had to come up big.” The stellar card, which featured five fights, was put on by United Boxing Promotions.
