Huck Seeking Payback for Minto’s Upset Win Over Axel Schulz in 2006
WBO Cruiserweight Champion Marco “Captain” Huck (28-1, 21 KOs) will have revenge on his mind when he defends his title against Brian “The Beast” Minto (34-3, 21 KOs) in Oldenburg on Saturday night. Back in 2006, Minto spoiled the ring comeback of popular German heavyweight Axel Schulz, stopping the former world title contender in the sixth round. “I will avenge Schulz’ loss and make Minto pay,” Huck said. “He has no idea what it means to be inside the ring with me. He is in for a decent beating.”
The American challenger was expected to arrive in Oldenburg on Monday. However, his flight was cancelled, which postponed his arrival until 10:55 on Tuesday morning. Minto did not show much during today’s public training session. “I am very sorry, but I am very tired,” he said. “It will be different on Saturday. I will be well-rested and in top shape. I have done everything to leave the ring as the winner.” His manager Pat Nelson was equally optimistic. “One should not underestimate Brian,” he said. “He pulled off a major surprise against Schulz and he will pull off another upset on Saturday night.”
Huck was far from impressed. “I am the world champion and Minto is about to find out what that means. He has no chance against me. I will defeat him clearly.” Added coach Ulli Wegner, who turned 68 on Monday: “Marco keeps progressing inside and outside the ring. He has the right mental focus and will be ready for a great fight on Saturday night.”
On the undercard, WBO Intercontinental Light Heavyweight Champion Karo Murat (21-0, 13 KOs) defends his title against Tommy Karpency (19-1, 12 KOs), while middleweight sensation Dominik Britsch (18-0, 7 KOs) takes on Alessio Furlan (24-15, 9 KOs).
