IBF North American Super Middleweight Boxing Champion Jesus “El Martillo” Gonzales took time out , Wednesday night (5/18) prior to watching the Arizona Diamondback’s play the visiting Atlanta Braves to talk to a Phoenix Television Reporter from Channel 33 (The official Spanish language station covering the D’backs). Jesus, aka Ernie, scheduled to fight Henry “Sweet Poo” Buchanan at the Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix on Friday July 8; didn’t mince words during his short but straight talking interview.
He predicted he would beat Buchanan and challenged both Andre Ward and Kelly Pavlik to fight him. Gonzales beat Ward as an amateur and Ward (by his own admission) would like to avenge the loss. He said he could beat either one and it didn’t matter which one first.
Jesus and Fan Base Promotions met several families at the Chase Field Box Office and gave them tickets to watch the game. For some of the family members, it was a first live baseball game experience. Gonzales has vowed to remain part of the community and this Sunday, May 22, he will participate in The Cystic Fibrosis Walk For The Cure fundraiser at Tempe Beach Park. Registration begins at 8 AM.
