Newly crowned WBC/USNBC lightweight champion John Molina, Jr. claimed his title yesterday in a dominant performance against Mexico’s Alejandro Rodriguez. By use of his crafty right jab Molina, Jr. was able to bring down Rodriguez once in the last ten seconds of the first round and three times in the third round causing the referee to call the fight at 1:45.
“The Gladiator” Molina, Jr. went on to improve his record to (22-1, 18KO’s).
Molina, Jr., who has not fought since July of 2010 stated, ” We got the ring rust off and I’m ready to go for the next fight. This fight was exactly what it was, a good fight! I got my timing back, lets get it on! My jab worked best for me tonight but I still got to work out a few more things. Now it’s time to go to work. I want that 135 lbs. division title, I want to go to work for it!
On his upcoming battle scheduled for June 24:
“Throw that fight in, lets go! I don’t want anymore time off. I want to go to the top, I have a few things to work on, but we’re gonna get there.”
Looking ahead, John Molina Jr. is scheduled to take on Denver, Colorado’s veteran Robert “Red Hot” Frankel (28-10-1, 5 KOs) as the main event of the June 24 edition of the ESPN “Friday Night Fight” series.
