John Simpson will face Choi Tseveenpurev for the vacant WBO Inter-Continental super featherweight title in Betfair’s ‘Fighting Pride of Scotland’ at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow on May 11, live on Sky Sports.
The former British and Commonwealth champion will be looking to write the final chapter in the career of 41 year old Choi, who fights for the first time since losing to Daud Cino Yordan in an IBO title bout last November.
The clash supports Ricky Burns’ WBO lightweight title defence against unbeaten mandatory challenger Jose Gonzalez and promoter Eddie Hearn believes it has the hallmarks of a classic.
“This fight has war written all it and the response already has been incredible,” said Hearn. “Choi has a real cult following within the game and everyone knows how John Simpson likes to fight. Don’t blink during this one!”
A stacked bill in Glasgow will also see top Scottish talent including unbeaten trio David Brophy, Jon Slowey and Stephen Simmons, who takes on Michael Sweeney in a ten round Celtic cruiserweight clash, and they will be joined by some of Matchroom Boxing’s brightest young stars.
