Tonight at The Washington Hilton, a special night of professional boxing will highlight the “Fight for Children” charity event. The main event of the three bout card will pit undefeated John “Apollo Kidd” Thompson taking on Jonathan Batista.
Thompson of Newark, NJ has a record of 13-0 with 4 knockouts and as he closes out 2013, he is one of the top prospects in the Jr. Middleweight division.
The 24 year-old will be making his 4th appearance of 2013 and he has stepped up with each bout.
In February, Thompson stopped Grayson Blake (5-1) in five rounds. In May he scored 4 knockdowns en route to an eight round unanimous decision over Geovanny Rodriguez (8-0) in a bout that was nationally televised on Sho Box. In his last bout, Thompson scored a shutout victory over Brandon Quarles (10-1-1) on September 13th.
Batista is a late replacement for Antwone Smith, who pulled out of the fight on Tuesday. The 29 Year-old Batista has a record of 14-2 with 7 knockouts. The native of New York via the Dominican Republic has only blemishes to undefeated Emanuel Lartey (14-0-1) and former world champion Kermit Cintron.
The two other fights will feature a six round female Flyweight bout between Tyriesha Douglas (3-0, 1 KO) vs. Marisol Miranda (5-6, 1 KO) as well as a four round Jr. Welterweight bout between Cornelius Whitlock (1-0-2) and Josue Rivera (2-2, 2 KO’s)
