Simon Jordan has labelled Chris Eubank Jr’s clash with Conor Benn as a “freak show.”

Eubank Jr faces Benn at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on April 26 in a rescheduled middleweight showdown.

The pair were supposed to have fought back in October 2022, only for the bout to be shelved on fight week after Benn twice tested positive for the banned substance Clomiphene.

Having been cleared by the National Anti-Doping Panel to resume his career in November, ’The Destroyer’ will move up a weight class to face the Brighton man.

Outspoken pundit, Jordan believes their fight is generating interest purely because of the legacy of their fathers, who fought twice in two classic battles in the 1990’s.

“I do [think it’s nothing more than a freak show],” Jordan told talkSPORT.

“I think Chris is a charlatan at world level.

“I think he doesn’t take world title fights when there’s opportunity to do so and every time he steps up he gets beat by a world title operator.

“I think Conor Benn, with all due respect to Conor and I like [his father] Nigel and I like Conor, has never explained why drug tests have been failed and boxing shouldn’t tolerate that.

“My view is he’s a welterweight stepping up to get paid and Chris Eubank is coming down to get paid.

“The only reason this has the lure is because of the deeds of real world title fighters which are their fathers.”

After a heated first press conference in Manchester on Tuesday, Eubank Jr slapped Benn across the face with an egg, sparking a melee on the stage, with security forced to separate the pair.

Eubank Jr’s decision to launch an egg at his rival was based on the WBC reinstating Benn into their rankings in February 2023 after ruling that a “highly-elevated consumption of eggs” was a “reasonable explanation for his failed drug tests.”

The feuding pair were denied a face-off opportunity on Wednesday, but came face-to-face at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday evening at a second press conference, where they were kept well apart from each other by security.

The British Boxing Board of Control confirmed on Wednesday that a hearing would take place after the incident, with Eubank Jr likely to be punished after sparking the altercation.
