Free Agent Boxing and Troya Boxing Management wish to congratulate super-welterweight powerhouse Jorge “Destroyer” Melendez for his impressive TKO 2 victory over capable Philadelphia veteran Jamaal Davis last Saturday, October 5, on the Cotto vs. Rodriguez undercard at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.
Despite a spirited effort by the determined Davis, the pulverizing power of Melendez (27-3,-1 26 KOs) proved to be too much, as he was knocked down twice in round one and finally stopped at 2:29 of round two, in no shape to continue. A true test for any 154-lb fighter, Davis had previously gone the distance with the likes of world champion Peter Quillin, ex-world champ Yuri Foreman and top contenders Patrick Majewski, Joel Julio and Ossie Duran.
“Jorge is too strong,” said manager, Edwin Diaz. “It is only a matter of time before he catches up to anyone we put in front of him. Jamaal Davis lasted the distance against great contenders and world champions like Peter Quillin and Yuri Foreman, but the power of ‘The Destroyer’ was too much for him to handle.”
With continued impressive victories such as this one, Melendez remains on track to become a top contender at 154 pounds.
Advisor José A. Acevedo added, “Jorge Melendez is grabbing more attention in the light middleweight division, as he keeps knocking his opponents out, and is showing improvement in his boxing skills as well. He is fearless and willing to fight anyone, any time. That’s why he’ll be champion someday soon. He is exactly what this division needs: a power puncher willing to fight anyone.”
