On Friday, November 5, TeleFutura’s “Sólo Boxeo Tecate” series is back on the boxing-rich island of Puerto Rico, as Golden Boy Promotions, in association with Promociones Miguel Cotto and H2 Entertainment, present a stacked card of world-class action at the Cosme Beitia Salamo Coliseum in Cataño, headlined by a junior welterweight showdown between Jose Miguel Cotto and Oscar Leon.
The November 5 edition of “Sólo Boxeo Tecate” is sponsored by Cerveza Tecate. Doors open at 6:00pm, the first bell rings at 7:30pm and the TeleFutura broadcast begins at 11:30pm ET / 8:30pm PT. Fans at home can also be part of the action by voting for the fighter in the main event who displayed the most character during the telecast by sending a text message to 55333.
Tickets, priced at $35, $25, and $12, are on sale now at Ticketcenter by calling (787) 792-5000 and can be purchased online at www.tcpr.com.
Unbeaten in five of his last six bouts, with the only defeat coming in a hard-fought battle against unbeaten contender Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in May, Jose Miguel Cotto (31-2-1, 23 KO’s) is one of Puerto Rico’s top fighters and one expected to challenge for world title honors in 2011. If the 33-year-old from Caguas is to get to the top of the 140-pound division next year, he will first have to turn back the challenge of Oscar Leon on November 5.
Colombian veteran Oscar Leon (28-13, 18 KO’s) is consistently one of boxing’s most exciting competitors and win or lose, the southpaw known as “El Artista” will always give fans their money’s worth. A former IBA World Champion now in his 15th year as a pro, the 36-year-old gave young gun Pablo Cesar Cano all he could handle before losing a close split decision in his last fight in June of this year. On November 5, he will look to hand a loss to hometown hero Jose Cotto.
