Puerto Rican flyweight prospect, Emmanuel “Manny” Rodriguez ( 7-0, 5KO’s ) outpointed veteran Mexican, Felipe Rivas ( 14-15-2, 8KO’s ) at the Jesús M. Freire Stadium in Cidra, Puerto Rico on Saturday night. All three judges scored 60-54. In the main event, José ‘Sniper’ Pedraza ( 15-0, 10 KO’s ) defeated Alejandro ‘Soma’ Rodríguez ( 19-13, 11 KO ) of Mexico via KO in the third round. Pedraza landed a huge a left hook to Rodriguez’s body to end the fight.
For Emmanuel Rodríguez, the former amateur star’s boxing skills were superior, using a great stiff jab with lots of combinations to Rivas head and body.
“I want to thanks my trainers Ivan Calderon and Felix Pagan Pintor for their help. It really means a lot to me to have them in my corner” Rodríguez said, “Rivas was very aggressive but thanks God, we could handle him”.
Manny Rodriguez is definitely an up and coming prospect to watch, and of course, Pedraza is one of the biggest prospects out there right now, although this was just a stay busy type of fight until a bigger match can be put together to help him take that next step in his career.
