Following Daniel Dubois’ impressive seventh-round stoppage of the previously unbeaten Filip Hrgovic on Saturday, it has been confirmed that talks have taken place for a showdown against UK countryman Anthony Joshua on September 21 at Wembley Stadium.

Dubois went into the clash against Hrgovic as a betting underdog, with many predicting that the 32-year-old would make light work of him and in turn set up a fight of his own against Joshua.

However, the young Brit flipped the script and put on a career best performance to dispatch of the Croat, who was no longer able to continue due to several nasty cuts above the eyes.

‘AJ’ was sat ringside and had the best view in the house of Dubois’ handy work – and will probably be the next man to face him.

Dubois’ promoter Frank Warren has now told talkSPORT that his 26-year-old IBF interim heavyweight world champion will pursue the Riyadh Season-backed bout against Joshua at Wembley Stadium.

“Daniel Dubois proved all his doubters wrong and won the IBF ‘interim’ belt.

“He hopefully will be fighting AJ in the autumn, we’re working on that. He did well.

“We would love it to be in the UK, they’re two Brits, it would be a great fight to put on at Wembley. We do have a press conference later on this month, hopefully then we can make some announcements.

“Joshua was ringside and I was sitting next to him in fact. I said to him, ‘Right, come on, let’s get this on.’

“We’ve got discussions going on so hopefully we can get it over the line.

“Him and Joshua is gonna be a magnificent fight because they’re both big, big punchers.”

If a fight between Joshua and Dubois is to land at Wembley Stadium, it will be the first time ‘AJ’ has boxed there since his 2018 stoppage win over Alexander Povetkin.

There has also been talk the former two-time world champion could face Zhilei Zhang, though Dubois is believed to be the frontrunner at this stage.
