As the two premier British heavyweights for the last decade or so, comparisons between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua have been incessant.

Most would argue Fury and Joshua are chalk and cheese, both in terms of their strengths and weaknesses as fighters, as well as their personalities out of the ring.

‘AJ’ takes on ‘The Gypsy King’s most recent foe Francis Ngannou this Friday night, meaning there will be further parallels drawn between the two Brits, regardless of the outcome at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh in a few days’ time.

Joshua this week has spoken out about his long time domestic rival – and told DAZN Boxing that he believes there are very few similarities between them.

“Everyone’s going to compare, but I’m not worried about what Fury’s done.

“Me and Fury are two completely different beasts – genetically, strength and mindset.

“Where I come in the game, I was boxing Fury up in the amateurs when he came down Finchley – he talked to Steve Bunce about it.

“So I’ve always been on a different trajectory to Fury. He’s done well – very well – but give me an opportunity to fight Fury and I’ll show you what I’m about.

“Until then, I can just talk about it. But I can’t look at what he’s done and think anything, because me and him are so different.

“I’ll do what I need to do.”

Though there will always be talk about a match-up with Fury any time Joshua fights, he can ill afford to have his attention diverted away from his showdown with Ngannou.

Known as ‘The Predator’, the Cameroonian proved last October that he is more than capable of holding his own in a boxing ring, when he dropped Fury and pushed him right to the wire in perhaps the most shocking result of 2023.

That said, most observers view two-time world champion Joshua as a firm favourite to emerge victorious and potentially set up a generational fight with Fury later in the year.
