Dillian Whyte admits he would love to send Anthony Joshua into retirement.

Whyte was part of a number of fighters listed by Eddie Hearn as potential opponents for Joshua should he not secure a fight with the winner of the February 22 clash between Daniel Dubois and Joseph Parker.

Hearn had been hoping to secure a long-awaited showdown for ‘AJ’ with Tyson Fury, however ’The Gypsy King’ announced his retirement last Monday.

Whyte, who was beaten by Joshua in 2015, feels his rival is at the end of the road and admits he would relish the opportunity to finish his career.

“If he wants to fight, then all they’ve got to do is call me,” the 36-year-old told Sky Sports.

“I’m always up for fighting AJ. No problem for me.

“However, personally, I think he’s finished.

“Eddie [Hearn] has publicly stated Joshua could fight me next, but whether he will or not I don’t know whether he or his people want it, then we wait to see.

The pair were meant to meet in a rematch in August 2023, but the bout fell through after Whyte failed a drugs test, although he was cleared to resume his career last March after it was confirmed that the positive test was caused as a result of a contaminated supplement.

Joshua went on to record three victories, before being dismantled in five rounds by Dubois in his bid to become a three-time heavyweight world champion in September.

Whyte, who beat Ebenzer Tetteh in December, believes his rival made a huge error by not seeking an immediate rematch.

“I think he made a huge mistake not taking the immediate rematch with Dubois,” he added.

“It was a world title fight, a great payday and the perfect opportunity to avenge his knockout loss.

“He will forever have to suffer the memes of being face-planted at Wembley by Dubois.”
