Anthony Joshua has given his two cents on the December 21st rematch between former opponent Oleksandr Usyk and long-time domestic rival Tyson Fury.
Joshua was ringside as Usyk defeated Fury via split decision in Riyadh back in May in a dramatic bout that saw the Brit dropped and almost stopped in the ninth round.
‘AJ,’ who suffered back-to-back defeats to Usyk in 2021 and 2022, got his prediction for that meeting bang on – and is backing the Ukrainian to get the job done once again.
Speaking to Queensberry Promotions, the two-time, unified world champion described his old adversary as “one of the best out there.”
“I think it’s going to be a tough fight early on and then I feel like Usyk will edge it again.
“He’s a class operator and I feel like Usyk’s one of the best out there.
“That’s why I think he’ll win.”
Though the Watford man will no doubt be keeping close tabs on what is one of the most hotly anticipated rematches of this generation, he must first come through a world title clash against Daniel Dubois.
Wembley Stadium will play host to the September 21st bout, the third time Joshua will have boxed at the iconic venue.
And should he come through ‘DDD’, a shot at the winner of Usyk vs Fury 2 looks likely for early 2025.
The 34-year-old admitted that a long overdue grudge match with ‘The Gypsy King’ must take place.
“It needs to happen, it’s just taking a long time, it needs to happen.
“But, he’s got his hands full and so have I.
“Let’s both do our jobs and we’ll see a positive 2025, I’m sure of it because we know that the people that are listening want to make good things happen.
“So potentially we might see Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury enter into a ring in collaboration with Riyadh Season, here in London.
“But let’s get focused on Daniel, that’s our main objective and we’ll see what happens there.”
Though many fans will understandably be of the opinion that Joshua and Fury should have locked horns many moons ago, a fight between them could be bigger than ever if they manage to make it past Dubois and Usyk respectively.
