With Devon Alexander’s Big Win, What Does the 140 lbs Division Look Like?
This Saturday evening, Devon Alexander put on a masterful clinic in stopping Juan Urango in the 8th round of their 140 lbs title unification bout. Alexander is now the WBC and IBF champion, and Urango of course must get knocked down a few pegs. Was Alexander’s win enough to vault him to the top of the rankings, ahead of the man – Timothy Bradley – that vacated the WBC strap he now holds? Or how high does he go in the junior welterweight division?
This division is one of the deepest and most talent rich in all of boxing right now. You could easily fill out a top 20 rankings list for the division, and even moderately hardcore boxing fans would recognize all of the names. Other big players right now include Amir Khan, the rebounding Paulie Malignaggi and the slugging Marcos Maidana. Of course, some huge names are also still lurking around, like Juan Manuel Marquez and Ricky Hatton.
