George Kambosos Jr debuted at super lightweight at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney and moved closer to a world title shot, but was pushed hard by Jake Wyllie before taking a points win over 12 rounds.
Kambosos was due to face Daud Yordan, but the Indonesian had to withdraw on medical grounds, and Wyllie took his opportunity on less than a week’s notice.
Wyllie (16-2, 15 KOs) began well off his jab in the opener, but was caught by a left hook at the end of the frame as Kambosos (22-3, 10 KOs) started to assert himself.
The 31-year-old’s left hand was finding a regular home, but Wyllie kept him honest, even when under fire.
The underdog had a solid sixth round, as he momentarily troubled Kambosos with a volley of shots, but ‘Ferocious’ was still in control, and mostly negating what the Queenslander had to offer.

Round nine though saw a crisis for the home favourite, as a nasty cut appeared above his eye following a head clash.
Wyllie was growing in confidence into the championship rounds, and Kambosos, who was coming off defeat to Vasiliy Lomachenko last May, had to be on his mettle, but he managed to negotiate his way to the final bell in what was a decent test for him in the end.

Two scores of 117-111, and a third at 115-113 saw Kambosos take a unanimous decision victory.
The Sydney man called for a showdown with IBF super lightweight champion, Richardson Hitchins and promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed that they have a date in June in New York for the proposed meeting.
Brown stuns Nicolson to become world champion
Tiara Brown stunned the home crowd, as she became the new WBC featherweight world champion with a split decision win over Skye Nicolson.
The two were involved in some altercations in the build-up, and in the fight itself, Brown (19-0, 11 KOs) gave Nicolson (12-1, 1 KO) all she could handle, and worked hard for the full ten rounds.

It looked as though it could be a close contest, as the pair both had their successes and the champion finished strongly, but the American was declared the winner by scores of 97-93 and 96-94.
Nicolson, who suffered a first professional defeat, took a 96-94 verdict for the third judge.
‼️ Huge upset in Sydney as Skye Nicolson is beaten for the first time by Tiara Brown who wins the WBC featherweight world title.

Johnson stops Hughes in rematch
WBA bantamweight world champion, Cherneka Johnson defended her title in a rematch against Nina Hughes and emphatically scored a repeat win with a seventh round stoppage.
Hughes (6-2, 2 KOs) was wrongly announced as the winner in their original meeting last May, with Johnson (17-2, 7 KOs) eventually declared a majority decision victor.

This time the judges weren’t required, as the Brit’s corner eventually threw the towel in, with their charge under heavy fire.
Teremoana eases past Singh
Exciting former Olympian, Teremoana Teremoana stayed perfect, as he blasted out James Singh inside a round of their heavyweight clash set for six.
Teremoana (7-0, 7 KOs) had Singh (12-6, 11 KOs) over before the stoppage and with the Fijian tottering along the ropes, the referee intervened.

Remaining Undercard
Imam Khataev went the distance for the first time as a professional, taking a points victory over Durval Elias Palacio (14-4, 11 KOs).
Khataev (10-0, 9 KOs) took a competitive win by two scores of 99-89 and a third at 98-90.
Another heavyweight in action was Hemi Ahio (24-1, 17 KOs) and the New Zealander needed less than a round to dismiss Aekkaphob Auraiwan (9-4-1, 7 KOs).
In a super lightweight four rounder, Jayden Buan (4-0, 2 KOs) took a points win against Jordan Kasilieris (1-4-1, 1 KO).
