There were several big cards last night for fight fans to enjoy, including ESPN’s Friday Night Fights, headlined by the Michael Katsidis vs. Albert Mensah fight. Mensah upset the combeacking Katsidis and won a majority decision in their 10 round clash. In Germany, Felix Sturm defended his title against Sebastian Zbik. Take a look at the results round-up right here.
Katsidis vs. Mensah
Mensah improves to 20-3-1 with 7 KOs, as he took home a majority decision against the more active and aggressive Katsidis. The scorecards read 98-92 and 96-94 in his favor, with the third judge scoring it even 95-95. Katsidis drops to 28-6. He had been looking at the fight as a gauge for himself to see how much he had left – and he may not like what he learned. Retirement might be around the corner for Katsidis now.
In the co-feature, Artemio Reyes was defeated by Alain Sanchez, a fighter he had previously defeated. Sanchez scored a huge, and surprising, 1st round KO. Reyes falls to 15-2, and Sanchez improves to 10-2-1.
Felix Sturm vs. Sebastian Zbik
Sturm maintained hold of his WBA middleweight strap by defeating Sebastian Zbik via 9th round TKO. Sturm got off to a slow start but took over the fight by round 3 or 4, eventually forcing Zbik’s corner to end the fight after nine stanzas. Sturm improves to 37-2-2, and Zbik falls to 30-2. His only other previous loss was to Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, in a previous title challenge.
