According to a report on ESPN.com, Kelly Pavlik will be making his return to the HBO airwaves on July 7, as he takes on Will Rosinsky. The Pavlik vs. Rosinsky bout will replace the previously scheduled fight between Brandon Rios and Mauricio Herrera. Rios was forced to withdraw from that fight due to injury.
Both Pavlik and Rosinsky are coming off recent wins. Pavlik fought on Friday Night Fights on June 8th, one week ago, while Rosinsky fought at a Broadway Boxing card just several nights before this fight was announced.
Each man came out of their respective bouts unscathed, and will now have a quick three weeks to tune back up at the gym before facing one another. The fight is scheduled for 10 rounds, at a catchweight of 169 lbs.
Rosinsky’s sole career loss came via decision to Edwin Rodriguez.
Of course, while the official word is that Brandon Rios is injured, there have been grumblings behind the scenes that he was not going to be able to make weight. Rios has infamously struggled with the issue in the past while lingering at lightweight, but was now planning to be campaigning at junior welterweight, where his fight against Herrera was scheduled.
For Pavlik, this is a great opportunity to get back on HBO and continue his comeback. With a solid performance against Rosinsky, he’ll get some great exposure, and be back on track to land a big name opponent for the fall.
