A big announcement has been made regarding the next fight for Super Six participant and two-division champion Mikkel Kessler. Kessler will be facing Robert Stieglitz, and the two will square off on November 5th, from the PARKEN Stadium in Copenhagen, Denmark.
It had been rumored that Kessler could be potentially facing Lucian Bute in the fall, however the sides and Showtime weren’t able to get everyone on the same pages in terms of money at this time. That left Kessler’s schedule open, and no big fights were thought to be on the table. However, Kessler vs. Stieglitz is a meaningful and potentially exciting encounter.
Since winning the WBO 168 lbs title, Stieglitz has already defended it four times. His last loss came in 2008, against Librado Andrade. Kessler meanwhile is still the WBC “Champion Emeritus”, but has fought just once since his victory over Carl Froch in the Super Six. The WBO title will be up for grabs in the bout, and Kessler’s Emeritus status within the WBC means a shot at the champion there may be looming immediately afterward.
More information on the Kessler vs. Stieglitz fight will be available shortly, as the fighters and their teams get together to hold an initial press conference and release all of the details of the exciting title bout. The media tour will include stops in Berlin and Copenhagen.
