WBC Super-Middleweight Champion Mikkel Kessler will make his decisive Group Stage 3 Super Six World Boxing Classic fight in Herning, Denmark. The Viking Warrior will take on Allan Green on September 25th as both men need nothing but a victory to secure passage to the semi-finals. The fight will serve as the grand opening of the newly-built state-of-the art MCH Multiarena Herning, the first multi-functional arena in Denmark. A sell-out crowd of 13,500 fans is expected to raise the roof. “This will be a very special evening for boxing fans in Denmark and all over the world,” Kalle Sauerland said. “The stakes have never been higher. It is not just Mikkel’s WBC belt that is on the line but he also needs a victory to progress in the Super Six tournament. Allan Green is very dangerous but with a sell-out crowd behind him Mikkel will make his country proud and knock him out.”
It will be Kessler’s third fight in Herning. In September 2009, he stopped Gusmyr Perdomo in the fourth round to book his place in the Super Six tournament. A boisterous sell-out crowd of 9,500 fans witnessed what has been dubbed as the best-fight ever on Danish soil. “I look forward to returning to Herning,” Kessler said from his training camp base in Berlin, where he held a media work-out session today. “The victory over Froch was very important but I need to take care of Green now – otherwise it will not be worth anything. I am determined to open the new arena in style and that means I will beat Green decisively.”
Georg Soerensen, CEO of MCH Herning, is already looking forward to another great night of boxing in Herning. “We thought the victory over Carl Froch was as good as it gets but the grand opening of the new MCH Multiarena Herning and the drama of the Super Six tournament make the fight against Green even more special. We could not have found a better event for the historic opening and I have no doubts that Mikkel Kessler and Allan Green will make September The fight again be televised live by Danish Pay-Per-View giant Viasat.
