Amir Khan believes that Tyson Fury will overcome Anthony Joshua, should the pair meet later this year.
Talks for an undisputed Heavyweight title fight between WBC champion, Fury and unified WBA ‘Super’, WBO, IBF and IBO titlist, Joshua are progressing with Fury’s co-promoter Bob Arum sending back a contract received by AJ’s promoter Hearn with no “major” issues.
Hearn said four sites in the Middle East have offered to stage the bout and former unified Super Lightweight champion, Khan insists Fury’s movement and power will prove key.
“I think Fury all day, to be honest with you,” Khan told ES News when asked his thoughts on the fight.
“I like Joshua I think he’s a good fighter, a well-built, strong fighter but the thing is with Fury, you see what he did with Wilder in the last fight, he destroyed him.
“Now this is a big puncher, who’s probably a bigger puncher than Joshua. I just feel that with his boxing skills, that tires people out with the movement he has.
“These heavyweights they’re not really good movers, but with Fury he moves very well, very quick, he’s very light on his feet, he hits hard as well, a lot of people don’t give him the credit for the power he has, he has a lot of power, which shows in the last fight he had against Wilder.
“I just feel that fight will happen, it will be probably the biggest fight in Britain, [in British] history I think.
“Two heavyweights at their prime with the titles, two champions as well, current champions as well.”
Khan has been out of the ring since stopping Billy Dib in July 2019 in Saudi Arabia.
The 34-year-old called for a long-awaited showdown with Brook in December, telling Khaleej Times: “I think with Kell Brook, who has always been running his mouth, I think put him in his place now.
“I think it is about time now to put him in his place and shut him up for good.”
Brook, also 34, who was halted by Terence Crawford in four rounds in November responded by saying he would still be open to facing his British rival and Khan maintains that this is the time for the pair to finally clash.
“Briefly we’ve [me and Eddie Hearn] had a chat about it, he’s happy with it and let’s make it happen man,” Khan added to ES News.
“I think it’s the best time now. We’re big in the UK and I think Kell is a durable fighter, he’s got a lot of power, he’s strong, can make 147, which is good.
“He made it in his last fight and let’s see if that can happen now, because in Britain I think it’ll be massive.”
