Amir Khan successfully defends his junior welterweight title!
Amir Khan had an early end to his first title defense, as he demolished undefeated challenger Dmitriy Salita. A right hand started the damage, and before a minute and a half of the clock ticked away, Salita had been down three times and the fight was stopped. Although Salita wasn’t regarded as one of the best fighters in the division, it was nonetheless an impressive win for the young Khan. There was also many other fights coming from Europe, full results to follow.
As mentioned, besides the Khan vs. Salita results, there was much other action coming from across the pond. On the undercard, the man who viciously knocked out Khan in one round, Breidis Prescott lost for the second time in his career, to the undefeated Kevin Mitchell. Mitchell controlled the bout with his boxing and is now the WBO mandatory challenger at lightweight.
In other European action on Saturday evening, Marco Huck defended his WBO cruiserweight title against mandatory challenger Ola Afolabi. Scores were close, with one 116-112 scorecard and two 115-113 scores.
On the undercard of that match, heavyweight challenger Alexander Povetkin stayed busy, demolishing no-hoper Leo Nolan.
That wraps it up for all of the major European action tonight, and the big news of course is the Khan vs. Salita knockout. In addition to the Khan vs. Salita results and fight coverage, check back in later this evening for a look at the Paul Williams vs. Sergio Martinez bout and the return of Chris Arreola.
