On May 2, it will be the ‘Princess’ versus the ‘Panther’ when Klara Svensson (15-0, 5 KOs) challenges Erica Anabella Farias (21-1, 10 KOs) for the WBC Female Light Welterweight title at the Frederiksberg-Hallerne in Copenhagen.
Although, Svensson may possess the looks and demeanor of royalty outside the ring, once she steps into the squared circle the 27 year-old is promising to take no prisoners.
‘’I’m going to break Farias down, both physically and mentally,’’ declares the Malmo-boxer. ‘’The panther will be running out of the ring with her tail between her legs!’’
‘’I’m not taking anything for granted. I know she is a dangerous opponent. She is experienced and mentally very tough, but I don’t think she is a remarkable boxing technician, and that is where I hold advantage. I will need to be careful, but I know what Farias is bringing to the table and I’m ready for it.’’
Svensson is riding the crest of a wave. Her first world championship challenge comes after her two career-best performances, a shut-out points victory over Marie Riederer to claim the WBC interim strap, followed by a one-sided defence against Lucia Morelli.
Now, the Swedish talent is eager to build on this success and take her place at the top of the female light welterweight division. “In my last fight against Morelli, I felt I was in a tournament qualifying for a final,’’ said Svensson. ‘’Now, I’m in the final and I’m going for gold!”
