The Wladimir Klitschko vs. Dereck Chisora fight has been canceled. If this sounds familiar, it’s because it’s the second time this has happened. The bout was originally scheduled for this past December, but Klitschko pulled out due to an injury suffered in training. Now, with the fight looming for April 30th, Klitschko has pulled out again. The given reason is that the injury still has not fully recovered, and he is on a bit of an unknown timetable right now. Of course, they may be something else to the rumors…
There has been much made of the fact that Klitschko and David Haye are now almost finalized for a July 2nd showdown. The Chisora fight, of course, was an obstacle. Another Klitschko injury, or a cut to the face, or numerous other hiccups could have made the July 2nd date impossible to reach. Now, Wlad has another four months to heal and focus, there is adequate time for a full promotion, and Haye does not have to sit idly be in limbo either. Expect the Haye vs. Klitschko fight to get locked in some time soon following this latest bit of news. Although, as has been the case with this saga, anything can, and usually does, happen.
Wright vs. Macklin Canceled
The Wladimir Klitschko-Dereck Chisora clash isn’t the only big name bout to be canceled. The upcoming Winky Wright vs. Matthew Macklin bout has also been undone. Wright, who hasn’t fought in two years and was looking to get back into the middleweight mix, hurt his hand during training and will be unable to go on with the match. Wright vs. Macklin had been on the HBO PPV headlined by Marcos Maidana vs. Erik Morales. It’s unclear what the replacement bout, if any, will be, and whether or not Macklin will still be featured.
