Sergey Kovalev regained the WBO Light-Heavyweight title after defeating Vyacheslav Shabranskyy inside tow rounds, in New York.
The Russian floored his Ukrainian opponent three times before the referee called the fight in favour of Kovalev.
Kovalev, 34, began aggresively, attacking Shabranksyy with shots to the head and body. A huge right hand hand the Ukrainian down within the first opening minutes.
Shabranskyy, 30, managed to get up to his feet but was once again on the defence as Kovalev continued his aggression and a right and left combo had the Ukrainian down again.
Shabranskyy managed to come out for the second round and still dazed from Kovalev’s previous shots, the Russian continued his onslaught and a right hand sent Shabranskyy to the mat once again.The referee made the decision to stop the fight after and Kovalev’s arm was raised.
Kovalev spoke after the fight and stated, ” I worked very hard to to return to champion status. I reloaded my brain, my mental conditioning and my body – i’m back”.
“It’s my goal to be the best, i’m ready to fight for all the titles and unify the division. I love boxing and I am here to make great fights”.
“I am happy that the belts have different owners, it makes boxing interesting, we can make good fights for boxing fans. I want to find out who is the best in the Light-Heavyweight division.”
“I’m ready for any champion, Bivol, Beterbiev, anyone, let’s do it, i’m ready.”
