LA Matadors Back in Action Jan 7th in Mexico City

The Los Angeles Matadors will start the new year hoping to build on their first place Americas Conference lead against their inherent rivals, the Mexico City Guerreros on Friday, Jan. 7 at the World Trade Center Mexico.

The Matadors have built up a commanding, three point lead in the Americas Conference over the Guerreros, anchored by undefeated bantamweight and two-time Olympian Rau’Shee Warren and undefeated lightweights Eric Fowler and Everton Lopes. Fowler and Lopes are tied atop lightweight division with their 2-0 records through four weeks of World Series of Boxing action. In the WSB international standings the Matadors remain tied for second place and only two points behind the WSB-leading Baku Fire.

In the Matadors’ first meeting with the Guerreros on Nov. 27 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, they made a clean sweep of all five matches.

The Matadors next home bout is Jan. 13 at Nokia Theatre at LA Live as they look to avenge their first and only loss of the season against the Miami Gallos. They will host the Gallos a second time on Jan. 27 at Nokia Theatre. Tickets, starting at $20, can be purchased by visiting www.ticketmaster.com or calling Ticketmaster at 1-800-745-3000.

The World Series of Boxing is a groundbreaking, international sports league with teams from three continents competing for five spots – bantamweight, lightweight, middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight – in the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

The Matadors will compete against three other North American teams, Miami, Mexico City and Memphis, for the next four months with the winner from the North American division advancing to the semifinals to compete against teams from other continents.
